History shows Volvo innovations are numerous and the trend continues later this year when the all-new XC90 SUV arrives with a noticeable lack of buttons inside.
Instead, drivers of the all-new Volvo XC90 will use a tablet-like touch screen, steering wheel thumb controls, voice control and a head-up display.
There will be integrated cloud-based applications for music streaming etc, the ability to use Apple iOS devices in the touch screen display and a claimed world-first in the form of an integrated ‘Park and Pay’ application.
The touch screen replaces normal buttons with just one control panel which interacts with an adaptive digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. Information is displayed on a head-up display on the lower part of the windscreen.
For those not familiar with iPad, iPhone and iPod, Volvo says the system is logical and research has shown functionality quickly becomes part of a drivers’ muscle memory.
The XC90 will even tell you when it’s time to visit your nearest Volvo dealership for a service.
