Just aesthetic changes with this round, though.
German luxury carmaker Audi might have only just had its A4 compact saloon on the market for three years, but they’ve seen it fit to roll out some cosmetic updates for the 2019 model year to keep the car looking tidy and fresh. The A4 is one of the most highly-regarding entrants in the segment, with predictable dynamics, a range of smooth and economical engines, and faultless build quality, so we can only imagine that these nip-and-tuck revisions will serve well to keep momentum going.
The B9’s got new bumpers on either end, with standard cars gaining faux-aluminium inserts in the front vents, while S-Line cars get gloss-black U-shaped elements instead. All cars feature a redesigned Singleframe grille, but S-Line cars get three-dimensional slats for added visual vim.
At the back, the reprofiled rear bumpers on S-Line cars also gain trapezoidal exhaust tips, replacing the old oval ones, integrated neatly into the bumper.
And if that’s not enough, you can now get an ’S-Line Competition’ pack that adds a front bumper blade and side skirts finished in a unique ‘Selenite’ grey, a four-ring decal on the rear doors, and an aggressive RS-inspired rear spoiler (for the Avant model). Wheel options range from 16- to 19-inches across the range.
Cabin revisions are limited to RS carbon-fibre trim for S-Line cars, a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and black partially-leather upholstery. S sports seats are available as an option, and can be finished in a striking ‘Magma’ red, among other hues. Opting for S-Line will also add things like 19-inch alloys from the Audi Sport portfolio, sports suspension, full-LED headlights, and red brake calipers.
There are no mechanical changes to report, with the usual range of 1.4-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mills and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel remaining on offer. Gearboxes also haven’t been changed, so there’s still a six-speed manual or a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic available, along with the brands’ vaunted Quattro all-wheel drive system offered as an option.
Audi’s local office has yet to offer a timeline for local introduction, though we’d reckon that we’ll see it sometime in Q1 or Q2 next year. But be sure to stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
