The four rings of Ingolstadt have announced the arrival an updated version of their mid-size SUV, the Q5 and SQ5. While its aesthetics are virtually untouched, the brand’s thrown in more equipment as standard.
Not long ago, we brought you news of the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class’ facelift for 2020. However, unlike the three-pointed star, Audi hasn’t removed any variants from the previous offering. Prices, too, remain flat.
"We had an opportunity to further improve the Q5 and SQ5 as a package, and so we looked at their priorities to help shape how we achieved that - we've listened to the priorities of our customers," said Shawn Ticehurst, Product Planning and Pricing Director at Audi Australia.
All Audi Q5 variants including the SQ5 now receive wireless smartphone charging pads as well as two USB charging ports for rear seat occupants as standard. The entry-level 40 TDI and 45 TFSI Design variants are driven by a four-cylinder 2.0-litre 140kW turbodiesel with 400Nm and a 185kW turbocharged petrol four-cylinder with 370Nm, respectively. They get 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels, MMI navigation with touch, Audi active lane assist, and high beam assist as standard.
Moving on to the Q5 Sport in 40 TDI and 45 TFSI guises, the pair gains kit like Audi’s parking assistance package with the 360-degree camera system and auto dimming wing mirrors while the interior gets an expansive panoramic sunroof with leather heated front seats with memory function for the driver, all as standard equipment.
The final stratum on the Sport ladder is the 50 TDI that’s powered by a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 mill pumping out 210kW and 620Nm that’s mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic torque converter automatic. The 50 TDI also gains a panoramic sunroof and Milano leather upholstery for the cabin as well as the sporty S line exterior package as standard.
The range-topping model is the SQ5 TFSI which now boasts additional kit like a head-up display, an extended upholstery package with adjustable front headrests as well as the Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system and the same panoramic sunroof.
The exterior adds metallic paint too as standard. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 competitor is propelled by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 that’s puts out a healthy 260kW of power and 500Nm.
The Q5 range wears a 5-star ANCAP safety rating thanks to its array of on-board safety features including Audi Pre-Sense with Autonomous Emergency Braking, blind spot warning and the cross traffic assist system amongst others.
