Audi Australia has launched the potent SQ 5 TDI – the world’s fastest diesel SUV – at the remarkably sharp price of just $89,400.

How this: powered by Audi’s stunning 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 diesel engine, with 230kW/650Nm on-tap, the SQ 5 TDI accelerates from zero too 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds yet still qualifies for reduced Luxury Car Tax (LCT) with combined cycle fuel consumption of only 6.8l/100kms.

“This kind of potent performance has never been available in a vehicle like this before and is clear proof that Audi’s modern engine technology is class-leading,” explained Andrew Doyle, Audi Australia’s managing director. “It is a testament to Audi’s desire to offer exceptional performance and exceptional value that we’ve been able to make the extraordinary SQ 5 available to Australian customers at such a keen price point.

The remarkable Audi SQ 5 TDI rides on firmer ‘S’ sports suspension so it sits 30mm lower than standard and rides on 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. At the front is the platinum grey single-frame radiator grille with aluminium-look struts, modified bumpers, xenon plus headlights and LED DRLs while the rear features four elliptical exhaust pipes.

Inside is the hallmark Audi sports treatment with black Nappa leather seats, brushed aluminium, carbo atlas, piano black or carbon-fibre look trim highlights, flat-bottom ‘S’ steering wheel and ‘S’ instruments with grey needles. A silver headlining is on the options list.

And good as the standard SQ 5 TDI is, Audi has equipped the first 60 examples heading this way with a $14,720 ‘Launch Edition’ kit with additions including 21-inch alloy wheels, dynamic steering, Bang & Olufsen audio, heated seats and carbon atlas inlays.
