Audi has topped the stylish A5 Cabriolet lineup with the launch of the stunning RS 5 model priced at $175,900. The four-seater spoft-top joins the equally alluring RS 5 Coupe ($155,900) to provide two RS models in the A5 range.
Power comes from Audi’s high-revving naturally-aspirated 4.2-litre FSI V8 offering 331kW of power at 8250rpm and peak torque of 430Nm between 4,00rpm and 6,000rpm. Audi’s sonorous 4.2-litre V8 engines are hand-assembled at the plan in Gyor, Hungary.
Drive is to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro system and the S tronic sevens-peed dual-clutch transmission. Optional sports suspension with the Audi Drive Select system adds Dynamic Ride Control with each pair of diagonally opposing shock absorbers interconnected and capable of providing increased damping force for the outside wheel in cornering.
Specifications are comprehensive in the usual Audi way and include 19-inch alloy wheels (three different 20-inch designs on the options list), Xenon plus headlights with adaptive cornering lights, MMI navigation, 10-speaker sound system, Audi parking system plus with rear-view camera, RS brakes and sports suspension and the glorious flat-bottom RS steering wheel with paddle shifters for manual gear changes.
Making its debut in the RS 5 Cabriolet is Audi Connect (a $800 option) which enables passengers to surf the web with their mobiles via an integrated WLAN WiFi hotspot. The system has been developed for Australia’s mobile network.
