The Australian Rallycross series took a giant step closer to reality last week with 10 drivers getting behind the wheel to test out the No.28 Olsberg Supercar Lite at Sydney Motorsport Park,

“We ticked a big box today,” said David Ridden, managing director, Global Rallycross Australia. “The guys gave it a hiding and the car didn’t miss a beat.”

The impressive list of drivers included Chris Atkinson, Alister McRae, Brendan Reeves, Adrian Coppin and Jack Monkhouse plus fast New Zealanders Ben Hunt and Matt Summerfield, they each completed about 15-20 laps in the car.

“The cool thing about rallycross is the mixture of surfaces, half dirt, half tarmac with jumps,” said Rally Ace Chris Atkinson. “With ten of these cars out on the grid and everyone throwing it into the first corner, we’ve got a great sport here so lets get it out there.”

“The 2.4 litre ford, four wheel drive, ford was a lot of fun,” said Brendan Reeves, as he jumped from the car. “The car was really sensitive to driver inputs and that’s what I liked.”

The purpose of the test day was to try and secure the drivers to commit to the  7 round championship series.

“There is no doubt after today’s test we’ll be announcing the first wave of drivers and teams who will be on the grid at the first round in Queensland,” David added.

The morning started out pretty wet, but by the time the afternoon session kicked off the track was pretty dry so the team bolted on a set of softs sent the drivers out for their second run.

“The level of grip changed completely in the afternoon session, but the car balance remained the same, it really hooked up,” side Alister McRae. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re on slippery tarmac or a dry track the car is awesome.
