BAC or Briggs Automotive Company has officially outed the Mono One which is a celebratory final edition of the company’s single seat apex hunter. BAC says the Mono One, of which only three examples will be constructed, will be the rarest specimens built by the Liverpool-based auto maker.
The Mono – which was first introduced in 2012 – is now at the end of its life cycle, and the One is the company’s last hurrah before its replacement is unveiled later this year at the Geneva International Motor Show. The One trio will be the final models manufactured before the new car goes into production for the Summer of 2021. As such, the Mono One is slated to be a true collector’s item as it sports a host of special-edition options as standard.
The trio will be finished in the company’s three trademark colours, namely: Iconic White, Carbon Black and Neon Red. Additionally, they’ll feature visible carbon lower bodies, carbon-hybrid wheels finished in a unique colour scheme, brand new and unique logos across the car and commemorative plaques as standard, plus the usual scope for bespoke Mono personalisation, including the made-to-measure seat and steering wheel.
The Mono One retains the standard car’s dry sump, naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Duratec four-cylinder engine which produces 227kW and 308Nm. The Ford-sourced block is mated to a six-speed sequential transmission.
You might be thinking, that’s not a lot of power at all - until you consider its 580kg dry weight rating. This means the Mono has a power-to-weight ratio of 391kW per tonne. The Ariel Atom rival will launch to 100 km/h from rest in just 2.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 274 km/h, which makes this supercar quick.
In terms of styling, the team behind the Mono’s looks said the styling for the car was inspired by – and this is true – Bjork’s 1999 music video for “All Is Full Of Love”. The robot within said video was the cars primary aesthetic inspiration when it was first sketched over a decade ago.
The Scandinavian design inspiration continues as the company says that the three lucky owners of the Mono One will be given – as part of the cars standard features – a one-off helmet with Bjork-robot-inspired livery.
The British-built track weapon is priced in the United Kingdom from £158,950 or $305,000 Australian dollars, which is almost double what the original Mono cost when it first debuted on the motoring scene.
