Bentley have just announced the new Blackline package for the 2020 Flying Spur which aims to offer buyers a more subtle and restrained continent-muncher by easing up on the ‘bling’.
The current automotive trend of blacked-out trim seems to be gaining popularity with both buyers and manufacturers alike. In keeping with the times, even the highest echelon of motoring marques, Rolls-Royce, succumbed to the influence by offering their cars with blacked-out trim, dubbed Black Badge. Moreover, Bentley reports that 30% of all New Continental GTs sold are Blackline trimmed and anticipates the new Flying Spur to mimic the coupe’s sales performance.
The Flying Spur Blackline remains virtually unchanged over the ‘base’ variant sans the exterior’s brightwork. The most obvious being the company’s iconic (now retractable) Flying B mascot, radiator vanes, matrix grille, side window surrounds, lower door and rear bumper trimming.
Additionally, the front and rear light surrounds, door handles, wing vents and the exhaust tips also receive the same distinguished, darkened treatment. Furthermore, 13 extended colours complement the blacked theme in addition to the 17 shades of paint already offered.
The four-door Blackline ships with 21-inch five tri-spoke alloy wheels with 22s available as an optional extra, shod in Pirelli P-Zero Rosso rubber. The 2.4-tonne cruiser claims to do the century sprint in 3.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 333km/h.
The sole power option available is a 6.0-litre W12 mill equipped with twin-turbochargers pumping out 467kW at 6,000rpm with 900Nm of twist from 1,350 revs flowing through an 8-speed ZF-sourced dual-clutch gearbox driving all four wheels. The new Flying Spur also receives an electric all-wheel steering system.
