It's more of the same from the big fast Bentley coupe, but there's a power bump and a new Black Edition which isn't any faster.

The Bentley Continental GT has always been in the running as the most luxuriously cosseting ways to achieve big speeed thanks to its twin-turbo W12 engine being able to throw the quite heavy car down a road.

But Bentley being bentley, the pursuit of more power and more, well, speed has resulted in its newest Continental GT Speed. The German-owned British purveyor of luxury saloons, fast grand tourers, and (recently) palatial SUVs has updated their GT Speeds’ engine to produce 472kW and 840Nm of torque (each one handbuilt, taking 12 and a half hours each).

By comparison, prior to this update the GT Speed’s engine chucked out 465kW and 820Nm. That might not be a lot of added power and torque, but its still a lot of brute force on tap.

Top speed, therefore, is at 331km/h making this the fastest Bentley ever produced, with the 0-100km/h time at just 4.1 seconds.

Apart from the uprated engine, there’s not much to say about the refreshed Continental GT Speed. But Bentley also took the opportunity to unveil a new Black Edition model. It’s an interesting naming choice since its usually associated with a certain major German automaker.

But while other Black Edition models usually represent a higher tier with more power and lighter weight, the Continental GT Speed Black Edition is essentially a set of cosmetic upgrades.

With the Black Edition, the car’s body colour is paired with gloss black finish and all-black 21-inch five-spoke directional wheels with distinctive brake callipers that can be had in red or black finishes.

Additionally, the front splitter can be specified in a selection of contrasting colours: Hallmark, Beluga, St James’ Red and Cyber Yellow. The interior is strewn with carbon fibre that’s countered by leather available contrasting shades: Porpoise, Beluga, Pillar Box Red or, again, the new Cyber Yellow.
