The driver’s Bentley has landed.
British super-luxury marque Bentley have introduced their latest addition to the family, in the form of the Continental GT V8. Despite losing the warbling W12 mill, the V8 gains a more gutsy, throaty 4.0-litre biturbo mill in its place, producing a more-than-healthy 405kW and 770Nm.
As has always been with the Continental, power goes to all-four wheels, albeit with a rearward bias this time around. The mill also features cylinder deactivation and even automatic idle-stop technology to save fuel, as if that would be a major consideration even for V8 Continental buyers. The century sprint is dispatched in just 4.0-seconds (or 4.1-seconds in the cabriolet), while V-max is rated at 318km/h.
The Continental GT V8 is available with alloys ranging from 20-inches to 22-inches, matrix LED headlights with the usual array of adaptive intelligent nonsense, a 10-speaker 650W Naim audio system, a large 12.3-inch touchscreen, quad exhaust pipes (all the aural pleasure you really need), air suspension, and a digital meter cluster. And as with any Bentley, you have a wide selection of interior veneer trims and hide options for the upholstery.
Naturally, the Continental GTC comes with a folding fabric soft-top, which ‘converts’ the car in just 19-seconds and can be operated at speeds of up to 30km/h. There are also neck warmers built into the seats, as to ensure optimum comfort even when the top is down.
The 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 will drop in North America in the third-quarter of 2019, while the rest of the world (including us, presumably) will receive the V8 Crewe-car in the first-quarter of 2020. As for pricing, don’t expect to pay too much more than you already do for the outgoing model. But who ever pays sticker for a Bentley anyway?
