Some might look at the Bentley Bentayga and have a multitude of adjectives come to mind, but the Crewe-based luxury automaker might want to make sure that words like ‘trendy’ and ‘stylish’ also come to mind in onlookers and/or admirers. That, perhaps, is why the Design Series was announced.
Obviously, the focus of this new run of Bentaygas is cosmetic, but underneath the extra pizzaz is the V8 variant with its 4.0-litre bi-turbo in charge of propulsion, equating to 404kW and 770Nm lurking behind the right pedal.
What you get over the standard Bentayga V8, though, and what differentiates it as part of the limited run Design Series is the level of exclusive customisability on offer. The exterior is available in a variety of new shades and hues atop of the ‘Blackline’ package fitted as standard.
These tweaks to the look are more subtle, such as the new seven-spoke alloy wheels, gloss black exhaust tips, and a body-coloured front apron among other even less obvious additions. Inside is where things get more interesting.
Each Bentayga V8 Design Series receives a new dashboard fascia dressed in carbon fibre weave. A special Breitling timepiece is on hand now, crafted with diamond studs. Four new accent colours, specific to the Design Edition, are also now offered for the specially reupholstered leather seats.
As expected, Bentley isn’t indicating how much the Design Edition upgrades will add to the price of a vanilla V8 Bentayga, and they probably don’t expect to reveal it until a customer orders one unflinchingly.
