BMW’s drop-dead gorgeous 4 Series Coupe will hit local dealerships in October with the three-model range starting at $73,200 for the 420d. As usual, the 4 Series is offered in both ‘Sport Line’ and ‘Luxury Line’ specifications.
Although related to the 3 Series, the 4 Series is a clever departure for BMW – longer (4638mm), wider (1825mm) and lower (1632mm) than its predecessor and comprehensively equipped, in many ways this is the coupe BMW enthusiasts have been longing for. Same for the chassis which, compared to the 3 Series sedan is 50mm longer in the wheelbase, the front track is 45mm wider and the rear track is 80mm wider.
Same for the styling which sees the all-new BMW 4 Series coupe adopting a much more athletic look, accentuated by the sporty front-end with larger air intakes and active air curtains which direct air to the front wheel arches (the latter featuring extractor vents behind the front wheels).
The gently sloping roofline highlights the purposeful silhouette, rear guards are sportingly flared and there are prominent ‘swage’ lines to add to the sporty dynamic. At the rear, L-shaped tail-lights accentuate the width of the BMW 4 Series.
Under the bonnet the choice is 420d (135kW/380Nm), 428i (180kW/350Nm) or the six-cylinder 435i (225kW/400Nm). All drive via BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
Inside is the usual BMW combination of sporty luxury and abundant technology with Dakota leather and 60:40 split-fold rear seats for load carrying versatility.
The 428i advances over the entry-model 420d with Active M suspension, Professional Navigation/nine-speaker audio with an 8.8-inch screen.
And the range-topping BMW 435i doesn’t hold back with M adaptive suspension, variable sports steering, uprated brakes and 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio. The 435i comes standard with the ‘M Sport’ Package – body kit, 19-inch ‘M’ alloy wheels, M Sport steering wheel and seats and an anthracite roof liner.
