Some good news if you’ve been eyeing a M4: BMW Australia have announce revised pricing on the model’s most driver-focused variant, the CS, to the tune of a $20,000+ slash. Now, by no means does this make it an affordable car. It is, however, less of a bitter pill to swallow.

The 2018 M4 CS - unofficially abbreviated from Competition Sport - for Aussie buyers will start from $189,900, and this updated pricing also applies to the existing orders already collected from when the car was announced for a local debut.

BMW Australia has been making their line-up of M3s and M4s ever more lean. While the popular M2 coupe continues its sales surge, less demand elsewhere has resulted in a cropped selection of the larger four-door M3, which will now only be offered as the M3 Pure and M3 Competition Pack. They’ve mirrored this move with the ‘standard’ M4, too, which has been axed.

Additionally, the M4 convertible has been dropped outright due to slowing sales in comparison with the coupe, an altogether unsurprising development and something that has been darting around the rumour circles for quite some time now.

The BMW M4 range for Australia will now comprise of three variants, starting with the Pure at $139,900 before stepping up to the M4 Competition at $156,710. Both of these are powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged S55 straight-six petrol engine that develops 331kW and 550Nm.

The M4 CS brings more performance through more use of lightweight materials and a slightly more powerful version of that same straight-six, tuned to develop 338kW and 600Nm, amounting to a 0.1 second improvement when accelerating from rest to 100km/h, now taking 3.9 seconds.
