We get it, you’re a BMW. Jeez.
We’re not sure what it is what BMW’s going for with their fascia designs these days. For everything but their coupés, the idea is that the larger the car the more imposing the grille, as if the model family number on the back dictates how many inches the width/height of the grille has to be. What we’re looking at here is the ‘745e’ that’s been leaked online via Instagram and in our opinion, it looks 7”x4.5” per side and ‘e’ is the noise you make when you see it.
Moving past the rather shocking fascia treatment, BMW appears to be going pretty modern with the facelifted 7-Series. The headlights appear to feature LaserLight technology, though it’s unclear if it’s a new iteration of the system or just the current units with a visual refresh. Changes at the rear are more significant, with a full-width light bar and a 3D-design to the taillights. There are different bumper treatments on either end though, which to us, look like M Sport units rather than standard ones.
What’s also noteworthy at the rear is the badge – 745e. This suggests that the current 740e hybrid will be phased-out in favour of this model, which might pack the electrified straight-6 setup from the X5 xDrive45e instead. This would certainly improve potency, efficiency and emissions, the last of which will make a huge difference in emissions-sensitive markets like Europe and China.
In addition to the PHEV setup from the X5, the new 7-Series is likely to retain is large assortment of engines ranging from 6-cylinder petrols & diesels, the 4.4-litre biturbo V8, and the 6.6-litre V12. Cabin changes are expected as well, likely to accommodate the very latest iDrive systems & technologies.
