Well, the M4 hasn’t been with us for any longer than this one current generation (F82) model, but the M3 has stood as a bastion of the BMW high performance division for more 30 years. Thus, the Munich automaker has decided to commemorate the occasion with a special run of M4s called the Edition 30 Years, or ’30 Jahre’.
Based on the current M4 Convertible, the M4 30 Years Edition doesn’t just commemorate the M3’s introduction, but rather focuses on the first appearance of the M3 Convertible. Since the current F80 M3 is a four-door saloon, it’s sadly disqualified from being bestowed the title its forebears earned.
Like every other special edition, there’s also a cap on availability, and here the M4 30 Years will remain exclusive with just 300 units planned for the run. Each example will wear “30 Jahre Edition” badges on its headrests and door sills, as well as special plaque on the passenger side that will display “1/300” to make sure none of your mates will dare dispute its rarity.
Only two special colours are available for the M4 30 Jahre Convertible buyer: Macao Blue metallic and a bright yellow called Mandarin II. We’re not sure what’s the deal with the eastern influence on the paint options, but the rest of the car is pretty much par for the course for an M4 Convertible with the Competition Pack.
There’s an upgraded engine tune that takes max power to 331kW and 600Nm, 20-inch lightweight wheels, a new exhaust system, adaptive suspension, and the active M rear differential. There’s also some black trim from the BMW Individual catalogue that’s peppered around the exterior.
Inside, you’ll get a full Merino leather interior that’s two-tone colour specific to either of the two paint choices: Macao Blue will land a Black and Fjord Blue combination while Black with yellow stitching will be lavished should the Mandarin II yellow is chosen.
