Could the wait finally be over?

After a very long gestation period, it seems that the time has finally come for BMW to bring its newest (and perhaps most controversial) M cars into view. The X3 M and X4 M have both been discussed and debated since the vanilla-variants of both models came about, and numerous teasers have been released since.

But this might very well be the last, with a shaky Facebook-uploaded video showing the two models in what appears to be the very last stages of testing. What’s heard is what may be a new inline-6 unit, speculated to be 3.0-litres in capacity and about 331kW in output. Mated to that mill should be an 8-speed auto mapped by M, and an xDrive unit that should closer resemble the unit found in the new M5 super-saloon.

Both the X3 & X4 M will supersede the current M40i versions of both cars, and so the century sprint time should be closer to 4.0-seconds, similar to what the Mercedes-AMG GLC SUV & Coupé manage with their 4.0-litre biturbo mills. There should also be M-developed adaptive suspension too, to ensure the widest breadth of ability.
