If you’ve got more money than sense and think that no one makes a car like we do, then good news! The Brabham BT62 is perhaps the most Australian a supercar can ever get. Made in Adelaide and powered by the most Australian of things, this track-exclusive brute may perhaps be the best way to roll national pride and petrol-powered hooliganism all in one.
Commanding a pricetag just shy of $2-million, the Brabham BT62 is one hell of a machine. Weighing just 972kg with a 41/59 front-rear weight bias, this is an unhinged machine whose sole purpose is to make you giggle like a schoolgirl while doing ludicrous speeds through your favourite racetrack.
Accompanying you throughout will be the soundtrack of a 5.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol motor, which gives your right foot access to a whopping 522kW and 667Nm. Insanely, this car sends all of that power to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox, with only the 18-inch wheels and Michelin rubber to transfer that ferocity to the ground.
And if that speed gets a bit too much, you’ll be happy to know that there are carbon-on-carbon, six-piston Brembo brakes hiding behind those rather pretty alloys.
Being track-specific, the BT62 features just two seats, with the default layout being left-hand drive (though RHD can be requested on order). Air-conditioning, DAB digital radio, and a 23-speaker Burmester sound system? No. You get alcantara seats, six-point harnesses, a removable carbon-fibre steering wheel, and an air-jack system. Oh, and a 125L fuel tank, with quick-fill capability to ensure you’re never gone too long from all that fun on the track.
Just 70 BT62s will be made, in honour of the 70-years since Sir Jack Brabham first raced. The first 35 cars of that run will be painted in unique liveries, each to commemorate the 35 wins that the Brabham grand prix team managed to rack up. Prices start at £1-million (or $1.8-million), with first deliveries expected to commence before the new year.
