Yeah, no.
French hypercar brand Bugatti thinks that its Chiron, the most opulent way to hit 320km/h on four wheels, needs a new option to convince buyers to part with even more money than they already have. So it’s done just that, by introducing what it calls the ‘Sky View’ option for its super fast hypercar. To the rest of us, it’s called a sunroof.
What’s interesting about the sunroof for the Chiron is that its been split down the middle, effectively making it look like two square glass panels were placed on the roof, rather than a nice, wide sunroof. The reason for this is to maintain the C-motif that features right down the centre of the cabin; this mirrors the C-motif made by the side intakes behind the doors, and also accentuate the feature lines that run through the middle of the car.
The sunroof has divided opinion in the office: There are equal votes for yay and nay, though the naysayers have said a bit more than just ‘nay.’
Bugatti says that buyers who choose the glass roof option (which they haven’t priced yet) will enjoy a whopping 2.7cm of additional headroom. In addition, the sunroof features a tint that provides for privacy and glare protection, as well last the ability to filter out UVA and UVB rays from the sun. The carmaker assures that with the glass roof there will still be “outstanding” noise insulation, and doesn’t hamper the the safety or the performance of the Chiron.
The Sky View glass roof option will be made available for all new orders of the Chiron, though again, they’ve stayed mum on the cost of this new option. But considering the Chrion itself is painfully expensive, we can’t imagine that the sunroof will be ‘surprisingly’ cheap, though it’s all relative, right?
