With over 200 orders already in the books, hypercar manufacturer Bugatti is now forced to push their production schedules up, as their current pace (of one car a week) will leave customers waiting too long.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, the boss at Bugatti, said, “demand has been incredible and these are not the kind of customers who like to wait too long for a new car.” The Bugatti Chiron, which isn’t even yet available for test drives, has proven to be a runaway success since its reveal at the 2016 Geneva motorshow. With 1,117kW of power from its 8.0-litre W16 engine, the century sprint is completed in just 2.5-seconds, and will hurtle on to a top speed of 420km/h.
Just to reiterate: No one’s really driven the Chiron yet. Test drives will commence in March, and Dürheimer expects that the 500 hypercars planned for production will be sold soon after. “We have many prospects who are keen to know more. My feeling is that after driving the car, most will buy one.”
The Chiron will be Bugatti’s sole offering, as Dürheimer commented that despite looking into several concepts over the past few years (including the Galibier super-saloon), it had become difficult to justify the business case for it. But with one individual placing an order for no less than six Chiron hypercars (one for himself, and five as gifts), we have no doubt that Bugatti will continue to satisfy speed demons for decades to come.
