Leading General Motors brand Chevrolet celebrated its 100th birthday on 3 November.
Now one of the world's great automotive brands, Chevrolet was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA on November 3, 1911 and was created by a Swiss racing driver Louis Chevrolet (who had migrated to North America) and local industrialist Billy Durant.
To celebrate its centenary Chevrolet has commissioned a sculpture to be erected in the birthplace of Louis Chevrolet - La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland - a UNESCO listed world cultural town. Currently four teams of famous artists are developing concepts for the statue and the winner will be determined in March next year - selected by representatives from La Chaux-de-Fonds, Chevrolet, the US Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein and the President of Switzerland's Federal Arts Commission.
These days Chevrolet is the world's fourth-largest automotive brand with annual sales of more than 4 million vehicles in 130 countries - that equates to a new Chevrolet being purchased every seven seconds.
In the 100 years since its foundation Chevrolet has sold more than 209 million cars and trucks.
