It’s a concept for now, but we don’t imagine it’ll remain so for long.

Cupra, the Spanish performance marque under Seat that’s recently been given free reign over its destiny (to an extent), has today dropped a teaser of a new concept car. The company has clarified that they’ll be revealing the entire car on February 22nd, but we can likely expect to see this new car at the Geneva motor show which opens next month.

“This concept car is a synthesis of what Cupra stands for, a special and unique car with a striking and sculptural design, which expresses its performance and show the energy that we have in Cupra to develop the next-generation of vehicles.” – Wayne Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer, CUPRA

*”Enhance the image,” they said. So we maxed the brightness.

February 22nd is an important date for Cupra, as it’ll mark the first year since the company was formally separated from Seat and relaunched as a standalone performance brand, aimed at buyers seeking a more unique, high-performance experience.

This new concept car is also pretty important for Cupra as, extrapolating by its claim that the new car will combine “the benefits of a performance car and an SUV” as well as the darkened teaser image, this is probably a coupé-SUV for all intents and purposes. The strong shoulderline, smoother surfacing, and relatively-aggressive lower rear-bumper allude to that.

Based on the Seat Ateca, the Cupra SUV is expected to seek motivation from the 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine that’s ubiquitous across the Volkswagen Group, with more power than the 221kW offered by the Cupra Ateca. All-wheel drive is also a given, though perhaps in its position as a more driver-focused SUV offering, we’ll maybe see a manual option aside from the definite DSG automatic.
