Now here’s a reversal - Nissan’s LEAF electric hatchback can now supply electric power to a household.
In fact Nissan’s lithium-ion batteries, fitted to the LEAF, can store up to 24kWh – enough to power an average household for up to two days.
To receive the electrical charge, the house’s electricity distribution panel is connected to the Nissan LEAF’s quick-charging port.
The system has real world potential to save money and reduce emissions. Nissan imagines charging the LEAF batteries during off-peak hours at night and then connecting the fully-charged car to your house to provide your energy needs during the day.
It’s not wishful thinking either. In fact Nissan and partner Sekisui House Ltd have constructed a demonstration ‘Smart Network Project’ house right in front of the company’s global headquarters in Japan which features the LEAF power supply system and other green technologies.
