That’s a striking camo, but it shows off everything, really.
Ford’s making a return to the Australian supercar series, 4-seasons after the company left. The 2015 series was the last for the company when it raced with a Ford Falcon body; Now, they’re coming back with the Mustang.
Of course, it’s merely a Mustang in appearance, as all Supercars share the same chassis beneath. For the 2019 series the maximum engine size is a 5.0-litre V8, perfect for the Mustang. Working together with DJR Team Penske & Tickford Racing, the new Mustang body features quite a number of changes to ensure it’ll work better in the series.
The roof is higher on the Supercar Mustang than the standard car, and it also seems to be quite longer. The height is likely due to the need to incorporate a rollcage in the cabin, while the length is just down to Supercar regulations. There’s also the bonus of better visibility, something racing drivers will definitely appreciate.
There’s also a huge wing out back and an ankle-breaking splitter up front, though those are demanded by regulation more than anything else.
The teaser photos of the Supercar Mustang come out as the first of the cars begin prototype testing ahead of the race series, which kicks off next February. Between now and then, DJR Team Penske & Tickford Racing will be able to do their thing and tweak the cars to get the very best out of them.
