Ford Performance took the wrap (literally) off their Mustang Supercar ahead of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and its public on-track appearance on February 14th on Philip Island. The car is shown here with the official Ford Performance livery instead of the blue camo it was seen wearing previously.

Upon its race debut at the Superloop Adelaide 500, fans will be treated to the iconic Fastback shape as well as the sheer spectacle of merely having Ford back in the Supercars fold after a 3 year absence from the series.

“This is an historic moment,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand. “To see the project come together has been incredibly exciting for everyone involved, and today marks the start of Mustang’s 2019 season. Mustang belongs on the track and everyone at Ford and our fans have been waiting for t his moment.”

The car’s reveal today and its eventual racing tenure is the result of a partnership between Ford as well as its Ford Performance division with Tickford Racing Australia and the Shell V-Power Racing team, whom together have designed, engineered, and homologated the Mustang for the 2019 Supercars Championship.

“I’m really proud of the team in North America, and I’m really proud of the team down in Australia,” said Ford Performance Motorsports Supervisor, Brian Novak. “We use the same processes to develop the Supercar that we do the NASCAR Mustang, that we do the Mustang GT4, that we do the NHRA Funny Car Mustang."

"That development has been proven out through other programs – the Ford GT at Le Mans for example – and we then transfer that back, that knowledge, back to the road car," he added.

It’s a bit of a shame, then, that none of the Mustangs being fielded will not be wearing the blue on white Ford Performance livery seen here, penned by the designers at Ford’s Asia-Pacific studio in Melbourne.
