We’ve heard about the plans, we’ve seen them testing on-road and now Ford’s Australian-developed Everest seven-seat SUV has officially broken cover.
Although the Bangkok Auto Show vehicle was branded a ‘concept car’, the Ford Everest was shown in production form and will soon be in production in Thailand for global markets – especially ASEAN countries.
Based on the Ranger ute platform, the Ford Everest will take-on the likes of Holden Colorado, Toyota Kluger and Isuzu MU-X in the heavy-duty end of the SUV field.
Although we hear rumours of Toyota adding another similar Thai-built product to its lineup, based on the Hi-Lux platform and positioned under the Kluger.
“The Ford Everest Concept shows the bold new direction that we envision for a mid-size, seven-seat SUV that has been designed for ASEAN and global markets,” explained Matt Bradley, Ford’s ASEAN chief. “Extending Ford’s unsurpassed heritage of creating class-defining SUVs, the Everest Concept features a stunning design that hints at its toughness and exceptional capability. And, like the current Everest, the production version of this next-generation SUV will be built right here in Thailand.”
