GM’s European brands are following the lead of the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack and Audi A6 Allroad with this new high-riding Insignia Country Tourer (shown in Vauxhall form) which is set to bow at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Based on the Sports Tourer wagon, the newcomer follows the lead of Volkswagen/Audi by adopting a 20mm higher ride height, all-wheel-drive and some degree of protection for the body from stones and sticks.
The anthracite-colour protective cladding is evident on the side sills and gives the wheel-arches some purposeful flares. Silver-coloured underbody protection provides a styling highlight front and rear.
Opel and Vauxhall will offer the Insignia Country Tourer with a choice of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines (one a bi-turbo). Drive is to all four wheels via a Haldex system.
Car Showroom rates the Passat Alltrack and A4/A6 Allroads very highly so we anticipate the Opel Insignia Country Tourer would be equally handy. A price under the $47,790 sticker for the Passat Alltrack would be welcome.
