Big news for Volkswagen enthusiasts – the updated Scirocco R which goes on-sale locally early next year shifts the iconic ‘VW’ badge from the grille to the bonnet.
You might snicker but this is a seismic shift for Volkswagen styling…we suspect other new models may follow the Scirocco’s lead.
The updated third generation Volkswagen Scirocco R is all about styling changes – new lights front and rear as well as new bumpers and some ‘newness’ inside.
Under the bonnet, power comes from Volkswagen’s 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 188kW of power at 6000rpm and peak torque of 330Nm from 2400rpm-5200rpm driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or the dual-clutch DSG automatic.
On the styling front, look for aerodynamic ‘blades’ for the front bumper with integrated LED lights.
Inside, the Volkswagen Scirocco R gains a new look which is also reminiscent of the ground-breaking first generation model with a secondary instrument cluster (chronometer, oil temperature and boost pressure) located centre dashboard above the centre console.
Otherwise the update includes a revised look for the gauges.
Of course Volkswagen Group Australia only brings the Scirocco R to Australia in one comprehensively-equipped specification with 19-inch alloy wheels, ‘R’ sports seats, sports suspension, adaptive chassis control and the handy XDL electronic differential.
Black painted brake calipers with the iconic ‘R’ logo confirm the Scirocco R as a member of Volkswagen’s high-performance club.
Fortunately confirmation of the updated model kills-off rumors that Volkswagen Group Australia was going to terminate the Scirroco R – great news because this stylish coupe is a beauty.
However Volkswagen Group Australia is yet to finalize local pricing (Scirocco R currently starts at $47,990).
