“New car, new energy, new logo, new paradigm.” Okay, we get it.
Chinese automaker Geely have released a handful of photos of their new GE11 fully-electric saloon, which is suggested will become the brand’s most important model to break into foreign markets. The GE11 takes the form of a small saloon, about the size of a Kia Cerato, but it’s what’s going on under the skin that’s of more interest.
What we find particularly noteworthy is that the GE11 is that despite it being a dedicated electric model, Geely hasn’t gone overboard with the styling. The 3-box saloon form factor is in full-force here, with only the filled-in grille and colourless badge indications that all is not as it may seem. The company released not a single specific about the powertrain, only that it’s zero-emissions all-electric, and is charged via flaps above the front wheels.
The GE11 bears an interesting interpretation of Geely’s design language, using a closed grille for the first time. It also bears Geely’s recently-reprofiled logo, seen here devoid of the usual chrome surround and black/blue panels. It’s all white here, with this badge perhaps reserved for all-electric models in the future. There are also retractable door handles for better aerodynamics (and cool factor obviously).
The rear end and cabin were not shown, but previously-leaked images have shown us precisely what those look like.
Chinese news outlets say that the GE11 offers up 130kW from its powertrain, with a top-speed of 150km/h. This is unofficial of course, but it gives us a rough idea of what we’re looking at. Priced right, would you buy one of these over a Kia Cerato or a Honda Civic?
