Who said family cars can't be pretty?
Geely, the Chinese automotive manufacturer that’s more famous for owning Volvo and developing Lynk & Co. more than actually making their own cars, has been circulating a teaser image of what appears to be a large people mover. Tagged as a concept, this will be the first time the company has looked into the large people-mover segment, an area dominated by Japanese and Korean marques.
Though only one image has been released, there are plenty of details for sharp eyes to uncover. Geely claims that the concept bears a design that the brand has used before, stemming from its Chinese roots, though we can’t see any of that in these photos. What we can see are properly strong haunches around the wheels, and tri-strip LED lighting on both ends. There also appears to be a bluff front end, which implies that this will be one imposing thing on the road.
Another noteworthy design feature is the glasshouse, with what appears to be an uninterrupted window from the A-pillar all the way back to the rear windscreen. It looks like the sort of low-slung seven-seater like the Mercedes-Benz R-Class, which arguably has better proportions than most upright MPVs, as is the norm in the segment now. Especially interesting is the apparent kink in the bottom windowline as it approaches the rear, with some sort of design element within it.
While Geely has lived most of its life as a manufacturer of price-driven (read: cheap) cars, it seems that the Chinese marque has serious aspirations for the brand. However, we can’t help but wonder about sales cross-cannibalisation between Volvo, Geely, and Lynk & Co., should they all end up competing in the same premium category. In any case, we’ll be watching the Geely stand at the upcoming Shanghai motor show with bated breath, as we can’t wait to see what Geely’s got in store.
Stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more details as they come.
