Subaru wasn’t left behind in the concept car race at the Geneva Motor Show, rolling-out the VIZIV which is a pointer to the Japanese company’s future design direction.
A sporty/muscular two-door, four-seat SUV, the Subaru VIZIV is technically remarkable, even for Subaru – drive comes from a future generation boxer diesel hybrid powertrain with independent electric motors used to drive the rear wheels (there’s no driveshaft to the rear).
A plug-in hybrid the 2.0-litre Boxer diesel combines with a front electric motor to drive the front wheels and generate power while the two tiny rear electric motors are only used to drive the rear wheels. The Subaru VIZIV automatically selects the best time to use each motor – according to driving conditions and required performance (turning the steering wheel is the signal to start driving the rear wheels).
Styling shows Subaru’s hallmark front grille but the rest is not out the company’s current design manual – a simple, sporty look with a bold silhouette alluding to high performance.
