The big family hauler now gets proper family-friendly tech, at last.
“SUV specialist” Haval, more commonly known to us as that Chinese brand everyone has a tough time pronouncing (it sounds like ‘have-ul’ by the way), have updated their flagship H9 7-seater and thrown a full gamut of advanced driver assistance systems at it to make it properly enticing as a proposition. What’s interesting is that despite giving it everything it needs to fend off the competition, they didn’t do the obvious thing and jack up the price. So the H9 Lux continues to be offered at $41,990 drive-away, while the H9 Ultra soldiers on at $45,990 drive-away.
The headlining updates come in the form of things like autonomous emergency braking, forward collision-warning, intelligent cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert all coming as standard on the H9 Lux and H9 Ultra, all without a price-hike to winge about. Looks like Haval’s continuing to tow the value line.
The turbo-petrol mill hasn’t changed though, so you still get a 180kW/350Nm donk matched to an 8-speed ZF automatic. You also get the Borg Warner all-wheel drive system as standard, as well as niceties like three-zone climate control, automatic headlights and wipers, rain-sensing sunroof, electrochroamatic rear-view mirror, reversing camera with park-guidance, terrain control and puddle.
Opting for the range-topping H9 Ultra bags you heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, a 10-speaker Infinity audio system, a heated steering wheel, ‘Comfort-Tec’ seating (whatever that is), electrically-folding third-row seats, and steering-sensitive headlights that curves around corners.
