The Brabham BT62 might not have a particularly evocative name, but when it comes to how the car performs and sounds on full noise, we expect nothing less than spine-tingling stuff.
Sure enough, Brabham Automotive have been releasing footage of the BT62 throughout its development stages, and the most comprehensive look yet at its performance potential was on display as it was unleashed on one of Portugal’s best race tracks: Portimau.
Here, from back in August, the car’s naturally aspirated 5.4-litre V8 can be heard screaming up to its 7,400rpm redline. Pass it along, it sounds glorious.
The car filmed is reportedly still a late stage prototype and not the final product, but enough of the car’s design and mechanicals have been cast in stone that the depiction is about as authentic to the real thing as you can get at this point.
The motor sounds like a proper racing thoroughbred, deploying all of its 522kW and 667Nm in the short 2 minute video, and some shots revealed bits of the BT62’s motorsport-derived steering wheel and digital cluster, helping to justify its hefty price tag exceeding $2,000,000.
With that much power needing only to motivate a car weighing in at just around 1,000kg thanks to a fully carbon fibre construction, there’s little doubt the Brabham will lack firepower even when placed against other non-road legal track toys such as the Aston Martin Vulcan and Pagani Zonda R.
