And surprise surprise, it’s an EV.
Spanish carmaker Hispano Suiza is back at it, and is once again plotting its grand return with a high-performance coupe. Back in 2010 they tried to make a comeback using an Audi R8 as a base, but that car failed to reach production. Now though they have a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis and a name: ‘Carmen.’
The company calls Carmen a “fully electric hyperlux grand tourer,” with the sole image of its carbon-fibre reinforced-plastic (CFRP) frame looking decidedly swish. The company says the styling of the Carmen is inspired by the 1938 Dubonnet Xenia, one of the highlights of Hispano Suiza’s illustrious history.
That chassis will house a powertrain developed by QEV Technologies, a company also based in Barcelona (like Hispano Suiza), which manages the Mahindra Formula E team, and works closely with Chinese marque BAIC for their electric cars. No details were given about the powertrain, with no mention of the number of motors, driven wheels, battery capacities and so on. So we’ll just assume it’s potent.
The Hispano Suiza Carmen will be built in Barcelona, but the company remained mum regarding pricing, availability, and timeline. So best stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you updates as they come.
