The Colorado 7 is shedding its name, adopting the Trailblazer moniker and a posher persona going into its next generation.
Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off the next-generation Trailblazer SUV in Brazil which is due to have its global market rollout throughout 2016 and will come to Australia by year’s end as a replacement for the Holden Colorado 7.
No more will the Colorado ute and Colorado 7 have a shared naming scheme. Instead, the new seven-seater SUV will adopt the global nameplate of Trailblazer.
Holden say that that the new Trailblazer will be a significantly different vehicle to its Colorado 7 predecessor, citing its more sophisticated design, more standard equipment and refined ride and comfort as moving the needle forward in Holden’s SUV offensive.
Speaking on the announcement, Holden’s Executive Director of Marketing, Geraldine Davys, said: “With the redesigned 2017 Trailblazer, we have dialled up the luxury and ride comfort to offer a more premium SUV that’s comfortable and confident in urban areas, but remains just as capable for weekend adventures. The move to adopt the Trailblazer name emphasises the vehicle’s new direction into a more luxurious and premium space.”
The 2017 Trailblazer will bear Chevrolet’s global design language and have standard features such as LED daytime running lights, exterior chromed accents, more use of premium cabin materials and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the infotainment system.
There’s not much else that’s been made public by Chevrolet, but it’s clear that the new Trailblazer is aimed to be a more capable in-town runabout, with improvements to the car’s overall refinement and feeling of luxury. But can it also keep its off-road ability after adopting this posher persona? Although not confirmed, it will likely reach Australia with an updated version of the current 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine.
However, in terms of specifications, there’s a good chance that the Trailblazer will follow the new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ute that had its ASEAN reveal recently.
