Holden’s announced the arrival of the Colorado Z71 Xtreme, an extensively-upgraded version of the Colorado Z71 that matches Toyota’s recently-revealed Rugged & Rugged X variants of the Hilux. The Colorado Xtreme might seem familiar to you though, because a couple of years ago, a ute of the same name debuted in Bangkok, but the car Holden’s offering has been properly specced-up with bits and bobs designed here.
“The top-end of the LCV market continues to develop, and we’re seeing a growing number of customers demanding greater off-road capability. The Colorado Xtreme was a concept car that resonated with our customers, and to not only put it into production but elevate it, is very exciting.” — Andre Scott, Product Marketing Manager, Holden
The Colorado Z71 Xtreme is based (obviously) off the familiar Z71 variant, though there’s plenty of visual differentiation to ensure not a single person will mistake the Xtreme for the vanilla variant. There’s a high-output LED light bar up front, mounted atop a bull-bar that is itself mounted atop a tougher front bumper replete with a bash-plate and a 30m winch rated to yank as much as 4,535kg.
In addition to that, there are contrast-coloured fender flares, hiding 18-inch alloys wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain tyres. There’s also a soft tonneau cover out back, a bonnet-bulge up front, a roof-tray, and decals denoting the Xtreme variant. There’s also tube side steps in black, which matches the heavy-duty back bumper, bed rails, and grille.
There are also upgraded suspension components up front to handle the extra weight of the accessories. However, the 2.8-litre turbodiesel mill with its 147kW/500Nm rated output and its six-speed automatic have not been revised, and the Colorado Z71 Xtreme also benefits from the switchable four-wheel drive system with low range.
The Holden Colorado Z71 Xtreme will be arriving in dealerships on the first of October, with a price tag of $69,990 drive-away (and for reference, the vanilla Colorado Z71 is $53,490 before ORCs). However the Xtreme will be limited-production (though Holden didn’t say what the limit was), but we’d advise potential buyers to call up their local dealer sooner rather than later.
