Holden chief Mike Devereux is refreshingly candid and at this week’s launch of the all-new Colorado pickup he said frankly: “Our SUV portfolio needs work.”
But Holden has two significant new arrivals heading our way to overhaul its lineup in our fastest-growing markets segments.
First-up is the Colorado 7 – as the name suggests, a seven-seater on the same platform as the all-new Colorado pickup. Unlike Holden’s current Captiva 7, size is definitely a plus for the all-new Colorado 7 – “It’s big, a true seven-seater,” Mr Devereux said.
Not surprisingly still some way off from launching, Holden would not be drawn on specific details on the Colorado 7. The photos show a good-looking SUV sharing the American-style of the Colorado pickup…and we wouldn’t be surprised if the seven-seater is offered with both diesel and petrol engines (the Colorado LCV range is exclusively diesel).
And next year is the Trax, GM’s new global compact SUV. Photos of the Trax highlight a cute, modern look appropriate for urban-resident compact SUV buyers.
“The Trax is a sub-Captiva size small SUV that we’re really looking forward to as that segment has seen sales growth in the last four years of more than 50 per cent and we haven’t had a car in it,” Mr Devereux added.
Of course there’s big new for Holden in passenger cars this year with the launch of the Volt extended range electric vehicle and the wagon version of the Cruze.
