Life size LEGO creations that mimic cars in real life, right down to tiny details, are apparently a real thing in 2019, and the portfolio of such cars is only expanding with this: an FK8 Honda Civic Type R made entirely of the Danish choke hazards.
The LEGO Civic Type R, replicated in its signature Championship White exterior, and which uses over 320,000 bricks and took over 1,300 hours to assemble, was recently in Melbourne ahead of the LEGO Masters show that airs this weekend on Channel Nine.
Interestingly, the weight of the life size replica LEGO Civic Type R is a pretty close match to actual car’s 1,300kg kerb weight, and even includes functioning headlights, brake, and fog lights that can be operated via iPad. However, we doubt the car includes the same set of LED front illuminators as the actual car.
Designing of the actual model was overseen LEGO global expert (and Certified Professional) Ryan McNaught, using CAD drawings before fabrication and assembling and gluing the individual bricks layer by layer, supported by a steel frame.
“We’ve loved the challenge of this project. The car is shaped with a considerable amount of curved lines, making it a tough but interesting build. From the working lights and indicators to intricate LEGO Honda logos, the detail on the model has been a fun one for us to work on”, said Mr. McNaught.
