Honda Australia announces the pricing for the all-new 10th generation Civic sedan that’s spread over five variants, two engine choices and one transmission choice.
Starting at a base price of $22,390 (excluding on-road costs) for the 1.8 VTi entry model, the price of the all-new Civic has seen a sharp increase from the generation that preceded it in Australia.
In case you were wondering, the Type R isn’t due to arrive until some time deep into next year.
Honda can’t boast about having the one of the most affordable cars in that class anymore, but the new Civic’s price is still in-line with its main rivals here such as the Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, and Toyota Corolla.
While the all-new Civic ushers in the arrival of Honda’s new breed of turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engines, producing 127kW and 220Nm, the lower two variants (VTi, VTi-S) in the Civic sedan range come with the outgoing model’s 104kW/174Nm naturally aspirated 1.8-litre i-VTEC four-pot unit. They're all mated to Honda's EarthDreams CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
The all-new Civic’s design is bold and sleek, and despite being categorised as a sedan, does share a more sloping roofline silhouette with that of a hatchback. Honda says the car’s new body is rigid and lightweight, with extensive use of high-strength steel cleverly distributed to spread weight and lower its centre of gravity. The uses MacPherson struts up front and has a fully independent multi-link rear suspension setup.
Wheel options for the base model are 16-inch alloys while 17-inchers are given to the higher-tier variants. However, all come standard with LED daytime running lights, cruise control and multi function steering wheel.
The sportier RS brings a sports body kit replete with dark grille, LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, sporty 17-inch alloys, 10-speaker audio system with 452W output, tailgate spoiler, sunroof, and black leather upholstery.
Sitting at the top of the range is the more luxurious VTi-LX, coming with all the plusher additions (with the addition of an electric sunroof) given to the RS minus the ostentation and extra safety kit.
All variants of the all-new Civic sedan come with front, side, and curtain airbags, stability control (VSA), reversing camera, traction control (TCS), Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), and tyre deflating warning system (DWS).
Honda has reserved its more advanced safety offerings to the top-end VTi-LX such as its Honda Sensing suite which includes: Forward Collision Mitigation (FCW), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Asssist, and Collision Mitigation Braking System.
Inside, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display is available on all models and includes support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The tenth-generation Honda Civic will reach Australian dealerships in June, while pre-orders are open starting this week.
