But remains without any significant mechanical upgrades.
HSV has revealed another variant of its Colorado SportsCat dress-up model, this one dubbed the SportsCat R. It sits below the SportsCat+ and is based on the standard model, though at $65,990, it commands an additional $3000 above the regular SportsCat for the exclusivity (and some upgrades).
The SportsCat R aims to increase the HSV ute’s on-road presence, which it certainly does, though once again it’s case of all bark and no bite. The SportsCat R throws in highlights in gloss black & gloss red, both of which are applied exclusively onto Mineral Black. The gloss black highlights are applied to the grille & lower fascia, as well as the 18-inch alloys (that are the same as the standard SportsCat, just no longer matte).
The SportsCat R gains some kit from the SportsCat+ like the sail plane & bonnet bulge, both of which feature red highlights. The red continues on the lower grille, the tonneau cover, and on the decals that stretches from the front wheels to the end of the tub.
Step inside and you’re greeted by SV seats wrapped in Jasmine leather and Windsor suede, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel gets red stitching. Perforated leather/suede combo stretches onto the dash too, while the floor mats feature specific SportsCat branding here.
There are no changes to the 2.8-litre Duramax turbodiesel engine or its 6-speed auto ‘box (147kW/500Nm for those wondering), though you can upgrade the brakes to AP Racing sets (like the SportsCat+) for an additional $1995.
There will only be 100 HSV Colorado SportsCat R utes made, 98 of which are destined for our market. The remaining two, just two, will be shipped off to New Zealand, making them some of the most exclusive utes money can buy there.
