It’s the half-step in the range that literally took half a step.
The guys at HSV must’ve gotten bored. While Ford is happy selling one version of the Ranger Raptor and generally leave it at that, HSV wants to sell you its (allegedly) more aggressive Colorado, the SportsCat, in no less than three variations.
As you probably know, the SportsCat range is made up of the eponymous model, and the SportsCat Plus. The limited-run SportsCat RS sits between the SC and SC+, and is priced between them too (from $63,990, between the $60,790 base model and $66,790 flagship). Just 100 will be made, with 6 bound for New Zealand and 94 staying here.
Being bookended by the entry-level and flagship models means that the RS gets some of the SC+ goodies that the usual SC wouldn’t get, like the wheel arch flares and bulging bonnet, as well as the 18-inch matte-black alloys. Unique to the RS though are red highlights & decals, and the gloss-black fascia and grille, which really stand out against the Summit White paint job (which is the only colour you can get).
Inside the RS you get ‘Jasmine’ leather upholstery with ‘Windsor’ suede inserts, as well as red sticking on the door trims, centre armrest, and steering wheels. You also get the usual smattering of safety kit like forward collision warning, lane departure alert, all-round parking sensors, and a reversing camera. You also get the option of having upgraded brakes by AP Racing, which sees the fitment of 4-piston callipers atop 362mm discs up front.
With just 100 being made, we reckon that if you had your heart set on a SportsCat in the first place (for whatever reason), perhaps having a super-limited version of it might seem more attractive. Either way, the SportsCat RS is available to order today, with arrival in showrooms slated for June.
