Hyundai has bolstered and broadened the appeal of the already popular i30 with a new addition to the range. Meet the Go, which is the new base model by undercutting the previous entry-level option, the i30 Active, by some margin with its $19,990 (not including on-road costs).

As you can probably tell, the new Go sacrifices the frills of the more expensive variants to provide buyers with the lowest possible entry point into i30 ownership. That being said, it’s not like you’re left with a hovel, quite the contrary.

For the price, the i30 Go’s list of standard specifications makes for quite a encouraging read. There’s 7 airbags, cruise control, a rear view camera, LED daytime running lights, tyre pressure monitoring, and even automatic dusk-sensing headlights.

Those 16-inch steel wheels are a little bit of eyesore, but you won’t need to look at them when driving around. Instead, enjoying the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is a much better idea, especially when it’s compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Even better, those who truly value safety features can add on the Safety Pack which brings more advanced functions such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. HMCA has not confirmed how much this package would cost, only that it will arrive specifiable for the i30 Go and Active variants in early 2018.

Two engines choices are present with the i30 Go, a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder that’s good for 120kW and 203Nm, while those who would task the car with highway-bound life could consider the 1.6-litre turbodiesel with 100kW and 280Nm. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or Hyundai’s 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

There are likely to be some comfort and trim sacrifices with regard to the car’s cabin, but since there aren’t any pictures of its interior to examine, we’ll have to wait until Hyundai discloses more to find out.
