Could fixed speed camera fines become a thing of the past?  Well if you drive a Hyundai Genesis fitted with its sat-nav this could come true.

Today Carshowroom.com.au had the opportunity to  drive the 3.8-litre Hyundai Genesis fitted with the companies latest High-definition touch screen sat-nav, that alerts drivers to pending speed cameras and depending on which specification level you have opted for can even  slow the car down to the correct speed when in the vicinity of a speed camera.

The technology allows the cruise control, sat-nav and braking systems to work together,  when approaching a speed camera with cruise control activated the car will automatically be slowed to the official speed limit.  The system is also able to apply the same function on point-to-point speed cameras.

In Australia the system would only work in fixed speed cameras as the technology is based on a database of all known speed camera locations, meaning you would still be able to be fined by mobile camera operators or police.

When driving without cruise control activated the system will still tell you that a speed camera is approaching and will warn you with a beep sound every second from about 800 meters until you reduce your speed.

Hyundai Australia are still yet to confirm local pricing, specs and even model line-up, however the first cars should arrive in Australian in October or November.
