This “true SUV” will get some real technology, too.

The Hyundai Kona is set to take the world by storm, marking the Korean marque’s first entry into the highly-competitive compact-SUV segment. An Autocar report has said that previous spy shots confirm the final design of the Kona, while also offering up a few more snippets of info on the impending Honda HR-V contender.

It’s been announced that the Kona will receive a “class leading” heads-up display, which will be a first for the brand. While it wasn’t detailed whether or not this will be a standard feature, it’s safe to assume that the HUD will be the reserve of higher-end models.

What we know so far is that the Kona will sport a very different design from the Hyundai’s we’re used to, with a four-light design (not dissimilar to what Citroën does with its C4 Cactus) and a cascading grille. The rear looks more generic though, and shares cues with some of its bigger siblings.

The Kona will rival cars like the Nissan Juke and the Toyota C-HR when it launches, though Hyundai promises that this will be a “true SUV,” meaning it may offer more off-road capability than some of its competitors. The baby-SUV is part of Hyundai’s greater strategy to be the biggest Asian automotive marque by 2021.
