Not too long ago we brought you news of a futuristic coupe-esque crossover from Korean automaker Hyundai called the Vision T. The company has stopped teasing us with renders and finally pulled the wraps off their plug-in hybrid concept.
Some have remarked that the Vision T’s styling is a possible indicator of what future models might look like. But what is fairly certain is that the design language seen here might be the basis for next-generation Tucson. “The Vision T crossover is the core vehicle that will take us to the next level in SUV design” said the Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Centre, Mr. SangYup Lee.
The Vision T wowed audiences at its Los Angeles AutoMobility premiere – helmed by Lee – with its “sporty and muscular” look that’s accentuated by its “level roofline, long bonnet, long wheelbase and shorter overhangs.” Helping drive that point home further are the deeply creased side panels, steeply raked windscreen and an interesting front fascia.
Speaking of which, the front end of the Vision T firmly integrates its Hidden Signature Headlamps into the Parametric Air Shutter Grille much like the Kia Futuron concept. When stationary the active grille remains “closed and static”. However, once in motion “each individual cell of the grille continues to move in a prescribed sequence controlling airflow to the powertrain, optimising aerodynamics and fuel efficiency” said the company.
Dimensionally speaking the Vision T Concept is 2014mm wide, standing 1704mm tall with a length of 4610mm and a wheelbase measuring 2804mm, which places it right in the middle of the Tucson and Santa Fe models.
The Vision T is a plug-in hybrid vehicle and has a charging port located on the front passenger side quarter that’s hidden by a sliding cover. When hooked up to a charger, “Drive Blue” is illuminated below the port and displays the car battery’s state of charge. Sadly, Hyundai hasn’t revealed more details on the powertrain.
