Infiniti Australia has announced updates to its Q60 with new engines and has also taken the opportunity to bring along some welcome refinements to its two-door coupe. The 2017 car will have its prices start at $62,900 before on-road costs are factored in, a $1,000 drop over the older pre-update car.

Kicking off the range is a 2.0-litre four-banger that’s an M274 unit from Mercedes-Benz, turbocharged to 155kW. Those aware of the older naturally aspirated 3.7-litre V6 entry motor will notice the power drop, but torque remains steady at 350Nm and is made available from earlier in the rev range. Obviously, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions improve significantly from this downsizing exercise.

Standard kit is generous, with LED headlamps and fog lamps, 19-inch alloys with run flat tyres, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery with heated front seats, a six-speaker audio system that’s controlled via the InTouch dual display infotainment setup.

A step above the entry 2.0t GT brings the Enhancement Pack for an additional $3,000. The same engine is on offer and in the same tune but adaptive headlamps, a premium Bose Performance Series audio system, active cabin noise cancellation, and Infiniti’s Around View 360-degree camera system is now included.

The higher grade available with the new 2.0-litre motor comes in the form of the Q60 Sport Premium, but that won’t be available to Aussie buyers until March 2017, just like the sole variant offered with the new 298kW/475Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, the 3.0t Red Sport.

When that range-topping version does arrive, it will command a price tag of $88,900, coming with features such as Infinit’s Dynamic Digital Suspension (DDS) and Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) shared with the VR30-powered Q50 sedan. Both the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre engines will have shifting duties handled by a 7-speed automatic transmission with power sent to the rear wheels.
