Got a little excited there, we see.
Japanese luxury outliers Infiniti got a little too excited ahead of the big day and, like a child at Christmas, unwrapped its present a little early. The Qs Inspiration is set for debut next week at Auto Shanghai, but Infiniti really wanted to tell us all about it ahead of time.
Well, not quite all about it. The release circulated to the press offers precious few specifics. It does have a pretty long quote though.
“For 30 years, Infiniti has built a reputation for introducing new technology that delights and gives confidence to drivers. The age of electrification presents us with an opportunity to renew our credentials as an innovative challenger brand, ready to move quickly and decisively in this growing and exciting area of the market.” – Christian Meunier, Chairman, INFINITI
The Qs Inspiration, Infiniti is keen to point out, draws its inspiration from the Infiniti Q45 that the brand debuted with in the 1990s. The “technology-laden” Q45, which drew enthusiasts with its “abundant power and low centre of gravity,” is carried over in the Qs Inspiration in a few areas. Firstly is the low-mounted drivetrain which puts the major weight in the machine low down, and the second comes in the form of the e-AWD system which promises “instantaneous acceleration and sustained power delivery,” two key aspects that every electric vehicle offers straight off the bat.
Interestingly, Infiniti’s found a way around the relatively high seating position that all electric cars suffer from, owing to the floor-mounted batteries. But rather than repackaging things they simply asked marketing to find a way around it. And so the “raised driving position offers a clearer view of the road ahead, without a raised body to compromise dynamics.” Sure.
More precise information about the Qs Inspiration should drop when the car makes its in-the-metal debut at the 2019 Auto Shanghai show on the 16th.
