Jaguar Australia has issued a recall for the XE compact exec saloon, specifically 76 of those sold locally powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engines manufactured between October 6th 2014 to 30th June 2015.
The issue concerns a potential defect that would effect the car’s fuel cooler in which a leak may occur, causing a fuel odour to be noticeable and would lead to an increase in fuel consumption. A definite marker of a such an issue manifesting would be puddles of diesel forming when the car is parked for a prolonged period.
Luckily, idle diesel isn’t easily combustible in the same manner that a hydrocarbon fuel like petrol is. But, more dangerously, should fuel continue to seep out while the car is moving, it could pose a skid risk to other motorists, possibly causing an accident.
The recall seems to involve early units of the XE saloon which were sold in the first few batches to Australian customers, with the VIN range being between SAJAB4C1XGA900002 to SAJAB4CN0GA911884.
Owners will be notified via direct contact and instructed to take their vehicle to a Jaguar retailer who will replace the fuel cooler assembly with a component of revised design free of charge.
