We'd usually scoff at this but from Coventry, it's oddly fitting.
British luxury marque Jaguar have decided that for the new model year, their XF mid-size saloon & XF Sportbrake mid-size estate will receive a special ‘Chequered Flag’ edition, that will reference the brand’s racing pedigree and past greats on racetracks the world over.
“The XF saloon & Sportbrake combine the elegance and exceptional performance which underline all Jaguars. Both XF models feature beautiful silhouettes giving them a dynamic appearance perfectly suited to the Chequered Flag badge.” – Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar-Land Rover
The Chequered Flag cars are essentially slightly-tarty versions of the standard models, with only visual differentiators. To that end the exterior features a couple of Chequered Flag badges on the fender vents, as well as a more aggressive front bumper, body-coloured side-sills, a small boot spoiler, the Black Pack (which blacks out the grille, window surrounds, and others), as well as 18-inch ‘Chalice’ alloys finished in gloss black.
Step inside and you’re greeted by either a black/black or black/red leather interior, ‘Chequered Flag’ tread plates, ‘Dark Hex’ aluminium instrument panel finishers, R-Sport full leather interior, and contrast stitching (regardless of which colour option you opt for).
You also get a number of popular options tacked on as standard, like Navigation Pro with InControl Connect Pro, which when translated to English, means you now get satellite navigation with live traffic updates. You also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and keyless entry. You also get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, which is displayed on the 10-inch centrally-mounted screen.
The XF range continues to be offered with 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol & diesel mills, putting out either 184kW or 221kW in the petrol, or 132kW for the diesel. Pricing for the Chequered Flag models starts at $94,000 for the XF saloon while the Sportbrake commands $101,400 for the pleasure. For the current model year, the Jaguar XF range kicks off at $81,700 (plus ORCs) for the entry-level Jaguar XF Prestige 20t saloon.
