Jeep Australia has spruced up their range of Grand Cherokees with a new pair of special editions with our shores getting just 220 examples split between the S-Limited and S-Overland, with 100 going to the former and the remaining 120 to the latter.
Kicking things off with the Grand Cherokee S-Overland at $82,950, Jeep claims the limited run brings a value of $9,000 over the standard Overland at a premium of just $4,500. It wears 20-inch ‘Granite Crystal’ alloys that match the dark satin exterior trim pieces, as well as darkened headlights and gloss black side mirrors.
The interior receives the ’S’ treatment, adding a stronger dose of luxury to the range-topping Grand Cherokee Overland. Here we have a 19-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo, dark wood trim inserts, sporty aluminium pedals, and SRT sport seats in Nappa Leather with perforated suede inserts.
Under the bonnet lives a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel that generates 184kW and a healthy 570Nm of torque, which is handy for towing and slow-speed off-road work. The oil burner also lends itself nicely to towing, which is rated at 3.5 tonnes.
On to the slightly more aggressive, less expensive, but arguably more interesting Grand Cherokee S-Limited, which is the vessel for the return of the crowd pleasing 5.7-litre naturally aspirated HEMI V8. Prices start at $71,450, which is $8,500 dearer than a standard Grand Cherokee Limited.
Thanks to its torque this engine is known for, towing capacity is tied with the S-Overland’s turbodiesel at 3.5 tonnes. Differentiating it over a lesser example is rather easy thanks to the fitment of an SRT Performance Sports ‘Hood’ up front, but there’s also black roof rails, grille, and mirror caps to match.
If you missed those giveaways, Jeep has also armed the S-Limited with 20-inch alloys, LED fog lights, trapezoidal exhaust mouldings, and of course the appropriate badging. For occupants, there’s ‘Heritage’ leather seats (why not the SRT-badged one?), ‘Liquid Titanium’ trim inserts, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
