Jeep has launched its most capable off-road vehicle ever – the special edition version of the Wrangler called ‘Rubicon X’.
Priced from $52,000, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X is off to a tough start with two competing in the Australian Safari rally which starts in Perth this weekend.
Now in dealerships the new variant is based on the four-door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon model so it features the part-time four-wheel-drive system with an electronic-locking front differential and Dana 44 rear with power via a Rock-Trac transfer car with a ‘4-Low’ratio of 4:1.
A 4.10 axle ratio front and rear and Tru-Lok locking differentials are also standard.
The Rubicon X model adds 17-inch Rubicon alloy wheels painted satin black and fitted with Goodyear off-road tyres, Mopar rock rails and a dual-intake Power Dome bonnet to aid engine cooling.
Inside are leather seats (fronts heated – probably not needed in the Australian Safari!) an a unique Rubicon X gauge cluster with Jeep’s premium Electronic Vehicle Information Centre with additional readouts for oil and tyre pressure, transmission and engine coolant temperatures.
Power comes from the 209kW/347Nm 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine driving through a five-speed automatic transmission.
